Incident Update for Coopers Road, Duncan fire on Kangaroo Island
ISSUED FOR DUNCAN
The Duncan fire on Kangaroo Island is currently contained - the fire is no longer growing in size, but areas may still be burning within its perimeter.
A southerly wind change across the fireground on Monday, has helped to reduce the risk to the nearby communities, and as a result the township of Parndana is no longer under threat.
Do not enter the fire area unless necessary, as it may not be safe. Hazards may include smoke, falling trees, trees blocking roads, damaged road signage and emergency service personnel working in the area.
Some roads remain closed and road closures are being continually reviewed, these may change at short notice. Information about emergency road closures can be found at traffic.sa.gov.au
An estimated 19,500 hectares have been burnt with a fire perimeter of 122kms.
When returning to homes in the fireground, if you require assistance with animal welfare or injuries, call Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) on 1800 255 556.
If you see new fires ignite within the fireground please call triple zero (000).
